Berlin, May 1, 2026: RARLAB.COM and win.rar GmbH are proud to announce the release of the final version of WinRAR 7.22.
Improved Solid Archive Deletion
This release finalizes a multi-version fix to how WinRAR handles file deletion from solid archives.
Solid archives store files in a continuous data stream to maximize compression.
This design means that deleting a single file requires rebuilding portions of the archive.
This process introduced a regression in version 7.20.
WinRAR 7.21 began addressing the issue, and version 7.22 completes the fix by reverting the deletion behavior to its pre-7.20 state.
This resolves edge case where the repair process could produce checksum errors, which could cause integrity check failures or complicate the recovery of the modified archive.
